Food doesn't always photograph so hot but it was too delicious not to post. I'm fearful I may have mentioned this particular recipe before but smitten kitchen's meatball sub recipe is so good I make it more and more often. Slowly carmelized onions, melted, browned gruyere cheese, tangy sauce and meatballs that really are "pillowy" like Deb says! I cut out all the stuff I don't have in my cabinet at the moment and just use the breadcrumbs, egg, parmesan, garlic, and parsley. When I restock my herbs I'll have some of the other spices and I'm sure it's just as good or better! It has become a staple recipe in my book, especially for football Sunday's.

I will never claim to be a good gardener but so far I haven't killed gourmet lettuces, herbs, or beans. Luckily I can cook so I'm thinking eating the last of the basil with the last of the farmers market tomatoes if there are any this weekend, and steamed green beans on the salad with salmon and a dijon vinaigrette. I need to milk as much out of the last pick before the frost as I can. Bye bye summer!

Just a few photos from the Lions/Bucs game in Tampa Bay. Went to the game last weekend when I was in Orlando visiting a friend. Forgotten : Sunscreen on a 100+ degree day, Lions shirt, and all things school related.
Good to be back with my books though; I start getting a little anxiety thinking about all the things I should be doing when I'm away for the whole weekend.

2 trips down, 1 more (the best one!) to go. Plus there's Renaissance festival this weekend and I've never been. Er, studying in between all that.

Some special grainy phone photos for your viewing pleasure!

We headed up to Traverse City for Labor Day weekend so these are a few weeks old. I booked a night for us on the floating bed and breakfast on the Manitou for an evening sail, drinks, a loud and rainy night in the tiny 1800's style cabins, and a gigantic breakfast the next morning cooked on their old wood stove below deck! It was good to do something different. The rest of the weekend we just biked and ate our way through the days!

Tasting some farm fresh flavors of August. Ripe tomatoes from the Royal Oak Farmer's Market, picked up on a lazy Saturday. Flowery squash blossoms grown and picked by yours truly. Basil from the garden, and all tossed with sauteed zucchini and baby asparagus.

I read a little article in Martha Stewart's Living magazine from a (I think) August issue 2011 on how to prep squash blossoms and got the basis on my pasta idea from the recipe listed on the page. I added a small amount of tomato sauce and liquid to give it a light tomato-y coating when blended with a little extra olive oil and the 1/4 cup pasta water it originally recommended.

Molto Delizioso!

What's one to do with extra tomatoes around the house than coat it with balsamic, olive oil, sea salt, and basil for some bruschetta completely legitimizes eating half a loaf of Italian bread.

A post dinner walk around the neighborhood was definitely needed after this...

Bangs are finally growing out to a more acceptable length, but my color needs attention. I'm thinking a rich brown, maybe to be less boring I would go toward a hint of red in it for depth. I also need a trim but this is probably the longest it's been in a while.

This dress is really comfortable and a nice color with conservative cut, but it is so darn wrinkly and stains at any touch. And these shoes I've had forever.

Worked out for the first time in too long today. I had outside reasons for not being able to exercise this summer but I hit my highest point and so the return to healthful eating and running starts today. I have an event every weekend in September and half of them require me to be in hot sunny places where bathing suits in public areas are common. Yikes!

A little late on posting some photos from a recent family wedding but it was a good time and we had great weather overall! Unfortunately I didn't get any non-blurry photos at the ceremony and I didn't want to lug around my nikon during everything since I was a part of the wedding party but I did get a record of getting ready, food, family, and sky-gazing. So, all the important things.

I did make a braided lemon bread that has cheese, lemon curd, and sweet bread from Deb's smittenkitchen for the after-wedding brunch at our family home and it was the 2nd time making it so it took me significantly less time. You should note I did make the lemon curd from scratch (I always do because it's super easy and there's nothing better than fresh lemon), and I doubled the batch to make 2 braids for 20-plus people. And I did follow her lead and refrigerate the braids overnight and complete the 2nd rise early the next morning before baking. So. Good.

First off, love love love the centered door knob look, but surprisingly it is hard to find images of what I am picturing in my head. I see a much larger one with a little bit of moulding under/around it to make it even more a statement. I swear apartment therapy had a post on this recently but I can't seem to find it no matter how much I twist my words and whip out all my antonyms on Google. Maybe you would have better luck, and if so, let me know when you find it, pretty please!

The journey of obtaining my masters officially begins next week and I am feeling a little like its my first day of middle school. Unprepared, unsure of what to wear, and undoubtedly I will look back wondering why I bothered to worry but for now I can't help myself. I've had my eyes trained to search for fun clothes to take on trips I'm making in September but I think I need to make a few stops before next Tuesday to make sure my I'm-a-conservative-student-no-really wardrobe is in order. I can't really control if I managed to retain more or less of my neuro information, or whether I will be overwhelmed or underwhelmed, but one thing I can somewhat control is whether or not I look like a responsible 25 year old adult when I show up so I might as well give that my all.

Happy early 4th!

This ring is a fave but it is pretty obtrusive and I took it off to be able to eat my carne asada more effectively. It's from an etsy shop out of asia and is cast metal with enamel. I've found quite a few really cool unique jewelry shops from China and other asian countries that are cheap to boot.

For the weekend of the 4th I'll be lifeguarding every day but I'll also get to go out a little bit. And on Monday you will probably be able to find us mulching and building my raised planting bed, yippee! Tomato heaven here I come.

Never realized how lopsided our fountain at home was until I actually tried to sit on it...

Happy belated Father's Day...nothing like a week (almost) late to keep the holidays alive long past their due date.

I have started to research plane ticket prices and feel a little sick about the cost of simply getting to the location itself without even factoring in housing and food/survival money. I'll have to play around with the dates and locations a little and see if that helps cut costs any, but since I will be in my MOT program from September straight through to early August every year for the next 2 years, I have few time slots available. And if I'm spending that much on flights I want to make it worth it so one week won't do either. I'm thinking early/middle August 2012. After my first year of MOT and my first semester of clinicals, I will be needing it.

My list of possibilities so far are : Spain/Morocco, Peru, Argentina, Brazil.

Spain would be easier to hop around cities for cheap, but it may be more expensive and same-old Euro style. South America would be gorgeous and more rustic but the rustic part might cause problems because isolation might make it hard to get around. I think we will try to take a good ol' domestic road trip as our rustic vacation early next year at least and do several days in the mountains. I am aware that all of these ideas are obviously influenced by relatives who have either recently done one of these trips or are about to.

I'm easily persuaded, okay?

The masterminds behind Roman & Williams are Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch based in NYC.
I can't get enough of their use of natural materials and animal elements. Some of the images I found were possibly leaning a little too much toward the industrial look for my liking but overall I like the wood, leather, fur, and natural objects they emphasize. I also enjoy the neutral look and would love to create a similar ambiance. The 1st, 3rd, and 4th images are my faves of the group. Sorry, number 2! A little sparse for me.

Hmm, guess this means we better stop renting eventually. And I should probably get a grown-up job. But what's the hurry?

These photos feature the gorgeous scar(s) on my ankle and document the mosquito-ness of the day. I had to run for my life!

Since my ankle surgery years back, I can pretty much only wear wedge style shoes if I want some height but I figured I wouldn't be doing much distance walking at the wedding so I went for the heel. Didn't factor in squishy grass element so they were like flats anyway as they sunk immediately. Ah well, "A" for effort right?

And on a side note, the photos were taken at my parents house. It always looks great in the spring and it's back in a wooded area of town.

Weekend events included a tented wedding with family at Lincoln Park, a brunch for Father's Day, visits with more family, and a quick stop at Founder's for a Wild Mountain Brown microbrew with friends. Mmm...

Wearing all things comfortable today for a relaxed and care-free Sunday. Sleeping in, brunch at D'Amato's, and a walk around the Royal Oak Art Festival downtown. Things are waking up and summer festivals, farmer's markets, and outdoor concerts are going to be popping up everywhere. A bit chilly this week but great to get some use out of warmer clothes and non-sweaty-face glasses wearing.

I feel guilty doing nothing today but during brunch we discussed the trips we would want to take in the future and I forsee myself surfing the internet for at least a few hours today making lots of presumptuous travel plans to Peru and Morocco.

Seems like the rocker style isn't going to go away in the summer. Almost makes me yearn for cooler weather because I'm really liking some of the things I see like the black studded tights above from Galstern on etsy. Almost.

Those leggings/tights are pretty much guaranteed to be in my drawer come winter. The feather tights I got from another etsy shop were also from Tel Aviv, so they must know what they're doing over there. Not sure where I'd wear these because they're so fish-scale-ish, but I like to buy these unique things I find while surfing etsy.

Waiting impatiently for my gold large face watch. I've been trying to find one vintage for a while now but can't find something like what I imagine in my head. This one from ASOS was on sale, and with some recent etsy income I figured why not. Although I was so turned off by the "Lindsay Lohan style" advertised on it that I almost didn't go for it. I ask you, How is that a selling point?? And this photo doesn't really tell me a whole lot about what I'm purchasing but despite all the advertising flaws I got it anyway.

I like ASOS; it is really moderately priced, but I will say it takes a long time for things to ship.

Also, I've had quite a few occasions to bake up a storm. Not my forte...I had more fun making the toppings than I did the actual cupcakes themselves. You can probably tell. The above is owls for a bestie's baby shower, and the bottom is monograms for my sister's bridal shower!

As an end note, I am getting SUPER tan. Only on my front. and limbs. Lifeguarding all day long in 90-100* weather in a one-piece suit on easily-browned asian skin makes for an interesting tan line. Eek!

Don't worry I am wearing shorts! Spent a fun day this week on one of my days off at a friends unpacking her new patio furniture and setting up a fire pit. A little grilling, a lot of dogs, and wine. It's about to cool down here so we took advantage of the few warmer nights we had.

I passed my last 2 classes and can now officially wait for my program to begin in the fall, Jared is successfully done with tax season until next year, and I am about to go to lifeguarding training tonight...

The day began happily at our traditional Sunday brunch spot for crepes and bloody mary's. Check out my new hair! I'm happy to see that it blends a lot better than I feel like it does. Wore my new spring military jacket but unfortunately it was much windier than I thought it would be, and then the weather decided to add rain on top of it. The one day I have someone to help with photographs it decides to be gloomy and rainy! He worked 75 hours last week so Sunday is pretty much the only day he or I are home before dark. I am happy to announce that greenery is finally starting to show itself up here though, and yes, I know our backyard looks hideous but in a few weeks classes will be over and I will have all the time in the world to rake it up, plot out a more defined garden area, and plant some bulbs and veggies.

All I can say is, 5 more weeks until Myrtle Beach!

I had my interview for my graduate program today. And no, I did not wear this; it was something with a little more coverage but not a stuffy black suit. I was sick today otherwise I might have done a little photographing, but here are some new summer staples. The shoes are super comfy and the nail color is actually a little more aqua than the indoor light makes it look.

I have already rented Resident EvilAfterlife and Vanishing on 7th Street on demand tonight and it may not end there. Both horrible movies but isn't that what you want when you have a fever and sore tonsils? I don't think my brain could handle any actual thinking.

I got my Warby Parker At-Home-Try-On box via UPS today!!!!

Despite the email warning me that it might be delayed due to unprecedented demand (possibly in part due to eatsleepwear's feature on it?) my order came quickly after and contained, as far as I can recall, most of the same frames I had originally asked for even though they also warned they may have to switch out colors and shapes for similar available styles. I was originally going the traditional route of using my health insurance and getting boring frames at a boring doctor's office, but after I saw eatsleepwear's post I had to try it with the amazing price. Now I can afford contacts using my insurance instead! Wahoo!

Pair 1 - Digby in Striped Chestnut

Pair 2 - Crosby in a gray (can't recall name)

Pair 3 - Winston in an ombre 2-tone (can't recall name)

Pair 4 - Pierce in Oakwood Brown

Pair 5 -Colton in Sandalwood Matte

I'm a total nerd and of course want to keep the hugest most manly looking pair (#2 Crosby) but we'll see once I ask for opinions from others. They're probably not mainstream enough for everyday wear and might turn off most people but I love 'em.

Top 3 Favorites : Number 1, Number 2, Number 4.

The first is a little too similar to my old pair, the second may be too much for others, and the 4th would be the safe choice. For number 3, the ombre effect has never been a good look on eyewear for me. Number 5 had a really cool matte finish but it was a little too light in color for me. My eyelashes tend to rub up on the lenses too so I had to apply mascara halfway in between try-ons to test it out. I think maybe I don't have enough of a nose bridge for glasses sans nose-piece?

Aaaaand the growing of the bangs begins. I have to hold them back or pin them every day. I love these pants because they are so comfortable but haven't really worn them because I bought them during winter. But since it is supposed to get up to 68* (well, we'll see...) I thought it was time to break them out. I have an interview coming up for my application to the Occupational Therapy Master program and I might wear these for a less boring looking work-appropriate outfit. March 30th, wish me luck!

Yesterday I went to the House and Garden shop in downtown Ann Arbor and bought 3 seed packets, 20 gladiola bulbs, and 1 bag organic red kernel popcorn for $16. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera but it was a really cute little shop complete with a friendly tabby cat roaming around. *sigh* I miss Ann Arbor. Detroit suburbs still haven't grown on me.

Love these screen-printed tights, got them last year on Post's Etsy site. They're located in Tel Aviv, Israel, and they came fairly quickly and are somewhat thick so they haven't torn yet even though I put them through some rough times on New Years. When I bought them they didn't have the over-the-knee feather for boots and I would probably get those instead because personally I wear boots far more often in michigan winter tight weather than heels or flats.

It snowed yesterday but with the weather we had today and the forecast for the week I don't think we'll even have to shovel. We had brunch at What Crepe and then went to downtown Detroit for the Detroit Kennel Club Dog show. Cheesy, I know. But for a little money you can pet your favorite dog breeds and then go home and relax and not have to walk your own dog or worry about training them. I picked a few of my favorites; you will notice that they are large and heavy shedders...not a realistic choice for when I pick my own live-in dog but in a perfect world I'd get the biggest and the furriest one I could find.
Yes, I am wearing peeptoes in the snow but I love these shoes.

The bangs have had their winter run and they may be on their way to growing out for summer now. Since I'm having a cozy albeit frigid Saturday at the house I thought I'd see how they go with curls and pigtails. What's up, snow? Thought you'd left.

Some of my most currently used palettes out of my makeup bag right now. I like to use neutral earth tones and black only near the lash line, and blend in a shade of purple with the black so it is not so harsh. I feel like pure black can really wash out the face on its own. And gotta love mac for their intense pigments.

Can barely type anymore since my arms are killing me from Bootcamp at my gym today. And note to self, never attend Bootcamp on an empty stomach or 4 hours sleep. Must...rest...

Mandatory date night. This week was a return to Cafe Habana for cuban ribs and carne asada with a good cheap margarita for him and a Cabernet blend for me. As he’s been working 60 hours a week lately for tax season until 9 pm (9:30 after the commute) we don’t talk much except on weekends. April 15 can’t come soon enough, and then we’ll be taking a week long trip that we just booked tickets for to Myrtle Beach a few weeks after that. But for now we will soothe our tired souls with some good red meat and drinks.

Sunday we go to a Detroit dog show just for fun. I really hope it’s just as cheesy as the movie Best in Show or I’ll be pretty disappointed...

spring fever

shrunken altered shirt, forever21. purple tights, thelimited. leather boots, american living.

Went out with some friends last weekend and wore this for day and changed slightly for night. Got to wear my new Jeffrey Campbell Ticks in Grey Tribal, which I didn’t get a picture of yet, and they were unbelievably comfy all night long. Warmer weather is not here quite yet but just around the corner; although these tights ~~are~~ were so comfortable I would probably wear them even if it wasn’t still freezing out. Unfortunately their life was shortened by a ring snag which was bound to happen.

Been reading a good mix of personal blogs and apartment therapy lately and wouldn’t mind owning a few items from theglamourai’s abode…
